The Power of Positivity

Ok, guys, I have to get real with you.

I’m a bit of a pessimistic skeptic.

Positivism just doesn’t come naturally to me, and truth be told, it’s something I have to work toward daily.

That’s why I can say that I know firsthand just how important and powerful positivity can be.

That said, I am getting better.

I’ve been focusing hard on forming healthier habits this year, and being more positive has been a huge part of that!

While I am working on myself, I’m also in the midst of raising and homeschooling a middleschooler.

Not just any middleschooler, either.

I’m homeschooling my 13-year-old daughter, and I’ve recently discovered that teenage girl emotions can change in a split second, everything is hard, and minor things feel like the end of her world!

Yes, some days really are that dramatic.

My boys still very much loved Mommy at this stage in life, even when we didn’t meet eye to eye.

So, I’m definitely struggling to navigate this new phase with my daughter.

She can turn from my best friend to a door slamming, my world is ending, and you caused it, girl, in a matter of minutes.

Needless to say, this whole leave me alone attitude when I say or do something ridiculously minor is not good for my positivity meter, and it has me realizing that she might just need a boost for hers as well!

This sweet girl is stuck between the innocent child she once was and the grown woman she’s about to become.

She’s struggling to see her self-worth, confused about what she hears in the world, and needs constant reminders that those little things really aren’t the end of the world.

So, here we go, you guys!

Yet another printable on Life + Homeschool that I created with my own kiddo in mind.

I just hope you find this one as useful as I do!

Positivity Cards for Kids

Before we dive right into the printable, I want to give you a little backstory of how these came to be.

I was in the midst of creating these lunch box notes for my daughter’s first week of enrichment classes, and it hit me that I needed to do more.

I kinda dropped the ball on this one because I should have been dropping little positivity notes to her for months now.

This girl has been through a lot of change over the past 5 years, and she started puberty right in the midst of it all!

First, we moved away (far, far, away) from her only childhood home to chase a dream.

Then, our family was victimized by the 2020 housing market explosion, and we ended up living in an RV for over three years, which, yes, we all grew to love for a time.

While I treasured certain experiences that our RV life had to offer, I much prefer living in a home.

There are so many things I do not miss about RV living.

My daughter, however, misses RV living more than the rest of us, simply because it’s where she made most of her friends.

Now, don’t get me wrong, she totally loves her new room and the space she now has, but with most of her friends no longer local, it has been a hard adjustment.

Many of them are either still traveling or have moved and settled down in a state different than ours.

Plus, she truly did grow up in our RV.

She spent ages 8-11 in that tiny home, starting the whole puberty thing right in the midst of it all!

So, needless to say, her positivity meter is somewhat struggling right now.

That’s why I created these positivity cards, and I truly do hope many kids her age (or any age) will benefit from them!

Using Positivity Cards

While you can use your cards however you like, these are my personal ideas for our current situation.

My daughter isn’t a huge fan of surprises because she prefers to be involved in the decision-making of most things.

However, I feel like these little bits of positivity need to be unexpected to be effective, you know?

So, I made the official decision to tuck these positivity cards in different places at random without saying a word to her.

These are some fun places you can tuck a positivity card for your own kiddo!

  • School bag, lunch bag, or school folder
  • Inside folded socks or the sock drawer
  • Inside the pajama drawer
  • On the bathroom/bedroom mirror
  • On devices (phones/tablets/computers)

Since my daughter is homeschooled, I will be placing some cards in her daily work folder instead of her school or lunch bag, plus, I already created lunch box notes for her outside-the-home classes.

Curious why I mentioned socks and pajamas? Well, I chose these as options for my kiddo because socks represent the start of the day and pajamas the end, and who couldn’t use a little positivity boost at the beginning or the end of their day??

I will also be sneaking some in with her daily supplements simply because she has some health struggles (an autoimmune disease), and the constant reminders that she can’t experience what many other kids her age can have been a hard pill to swallow.

All that said, you can totally do whatever you want with these cards!

Another fun idea? Add a positivity card to your child’s door each day for the entire week leading up to special events or birthdays!

*Pro Tip: Print your cards on cardstock for 1 time use or print on paper and laminate so you can use them over and over again!

Printable Positivity Cards

Since I originally made these for my daughter, I chose to create these cards in some of her favorite colors.

While she has recently been getting more and more into pastels, I knew those colors might not translate to print very well.

SO, I opted for a slightly brighter version of her favs.

That said, I did create a second version of these with a deeper color scheme for those who don’t appreciate brighter tones or pink.

Who knows, I may revisit the pastel option down the road because, honestly, I love updating old printables from time to time.

Anywho, check out the current options below!

  • Bright Positivity Cards

First up, the bright and fun positivity cards for kids!

This girl has always loved all things pink and teal.

So this version was 100% created with her in mind.

That said, her current favorite tonse of these colors are more blush and mint, but I have a feeling she will still thoroughly enjoy these little notes.

Dark brown background with flowers in the shape of a smiley face + 2 sheets of brightly colored positivity cards.

I chose bright for 2 reasons.

First, because I truly think they look beautiful printed!

Second, because bright colors have been known to lift moods.

All that said, I did create one more color option, and you can get the details on that one below!

  • Deep Positivity Cards

While I chose to stick with a deeper version of blue and purple for this set, I decided to swap out the pink for grey.

I did this because there are likely some boys (and girls) out there who don’t fancy pink.

This version is a little less in your face and a little more subtle and mature.

Making it a great option for older kiddos, teens, and young adults.

Dark brown background with flowers in the shape of a smiley face + 2 sheets of deeper toned positivity cards.

That said, if neither of these color schemes fits your kiddo perfectly, feel free to print in greyscale to skip the color altogether.

As much as I’d like to, I simply can’t meet everyone’s needs all of the time.

Positivity Cards for Mom

Love these cards, but need something for yourself? I’ve got you!

I was so excited to make these for my daughter, but in the midst of making them, I realized I, too, could benefit from this form of self-love and affirmation.

I’ve been on a bit of a positivity kick as of late, and it all started with my series on sticky notes a few months back.

First, I shared all about how I love to use sticky notes for everything and touched on the unique uses and my personal favorite, my sticky-note planning method.

Then, it brought me to a whole new love of using sticky notes — posting inspirational notes around the house.

Now, here I am creating yet another freebie because I just can’t stop creating and sharing, you guys!

That said, I haven’t gotten around to finishing Mom’s positivity cards just yet!

So, check back often to get your hands on my upcoming positive affirmation cards for mom.

In the meantime, though, remember, you are enough!
