The Importance of Technology Education for Teens

Let’s be honest, teens and technology just go together.

Teens and Technology Just Go Together Which is Why Technology Education is so Important

Our kids are growing up in a world that is so technologically advanced that it seems to change on a daily basis — meaning learning the basics may no longer be enough.

As someone born before smartphones and tablets, I simply can’t keep up with the ever-changing world of technology — which is why I am so incredibly thankful for platforms like MYTEK LAB that encourage children to learn and grow with technology!

Technology classes can not only help your child explore their creativity, but they can also encourage your teenagers to use technology as a tool rather than just for entertainment purposes.

Check out my mini-breakdown of the 2 MYTEK LAB classes we’ve had experience with so far & learn some of the incredible benefits they have to offer!

MYTEK LAB Technology Lab Level One

This course covers a wide variety of technical elements and is perfect for both middle school and high school students!

My 9th grader took technology lab level 1 last year and it was so incredible watching him dive into a topic I knew absolutely nothing about.

His eyes lit up and it sparked a creativity in him that I had never quite seen before. He learned basic block coding, HTML, web development, and 3D modeling.

To say this class was a blessing for my kiddo is a huge understatement!

MYTEK LAB Technology Lab Level Two

We are back with MYTEK LAB this year and I am beyond excited to be working with them again!

This year my son is taking technology lab level two.

He was beyond ready to jump right in when the opportunity to take a second class through MYTEK LAB came up.

Much like level one, this class is a perfect fit for middle and high school students and it also covers a wide range of technology topics.

The one my 9th grader is most excited to learn this year? JavaScript!

Teens and Technology

Raising Teenagers in a Technology World…

If you are raising a teenager right now, it’s likely they have more experience with today’s advanced technology than you do.

I grew up in a time when computers weren’t household essentials, tablets came in paper form, and phones had cords. While I do have basic computer skills and I know how to use a smartphone, I definitely wouldn’t consider myself tech-savvy at all.

Technology Changes Everyday - From Phones to Computers

Encouraging your teenager to understand the technology they use is essential in today’s world.

From home entertainment to workplace tools, technology is literally everywhere, and let’s be honest, growing up in a technology world means children and teenagers will naturally be drawn to it!

This is why limiting screen time for entertainment purposes and guiding children to use their devices as tools are crucial for building a healthy relationship between your teen and technology!

Teens and Technology Education

If you’re ready to break the mold and help your child go from a technology consumer to a technology producer, then technology education is the way to go!

6 Ways Your Teen Could Benefit From Taking Technology Courses Through MYTEK LAB…

Encouraging kids to be diverse in technology education by taking classes like the ones offered at MYTEK LAB will help them use technology in a productive manner.

Check out all the reasons I think technology education is essential for today’s teens!

  • #1 – They Will Learn to Use Technolgy Productively

Taking technology courses through MYTEK LAB breaks the mindset that electronic devices are simply around to offer some type of entertainment. Instead, your child will learn how to use, make, produce, create, and build with technology.

Technology Education Can Help Your Teen Use Technology Productively

They will gain an understanding of how technology works while going beyond the norm of just using it.

Plus, these are skills that could potentially last a lifetime and help your teen transition from childhood to adult life.

  • #2 – They Can Explore Their Interests and Creativity

Yes! This was a wonderful benefit I didn’t quite expect when we collaborated with MYTEK LAB the first time.

My son isn’t incredibly creative by nature, so I was definitely surprised by how much he flourished through taking these technology courses! He spent countless hours working on his projects and thoroughly enjoyed showing them off to family and friends.

Most teenagers crave a creative outlet and this is such a wonderful option!

  • #3 – It Might Help Them Get Into College

While technology education isn’t required for all college acceptance, having a good background in technology certainly won’t hurt!

Help Your Homeschooler Get Into College

One of the awesome benefits of the classes your child can take through MYTEK LAB is that each semester is worth 1/2 a computer education credit — making this a no-brainer if your youngster needs credits before applying for college.

  • #4 – It Can Prepare Them for Their Future Job

I seriously can’t stress this one enough!

Help Preparing Teens for the Workforce Using Technology Education

When your child is ready to join the workforce, they will quickly discover that many (if not most) jobs require basic to advanced computer skills.

Knowing how to program, create, and use technology in a productive manner might just give them the experience they need for that first job!

Plus, it can possibly open the door to amazing career opportunities down the road!

  • #5 – It Can Help Them Grow Socially

Having a great social outlet is incredibly important to teenagers and traditional social media simply isn’t it.

This is why I absolutely love the social aspects of MYTEK LAB.

The Social Side of Teens and Technology Education

Teenagers can connect with friends, share projects, create their own profiles, and encourage one another with likes and comments. Plus, The MYTEK LAB galleries are strictly monitored, making them a safe space for teens to connect!

  • #6 – It Can Encourage Responsibility

As homeschoolers, it can be incredibly easy to get relaxed and put our schedule on the back burner. This is yet another reason these classes can be a great choice for your teenager!

With class reminders, specific class times, and project deadlines, these classes encourage both responsibility and independence.

My 9th grader craves structure and these classes definitely deliver it!

Plus, technology education offers your child something that is completely theirs! This is great for homeschool parents with several children because let’s face it, teenagers need space and the option to explore their individuality.

BONUS Benefits of Technology Education for Teens…

While most of the benefits of taking a technology class through MYTEK LAB are for the kiddos, there are 2 things that made this a game-changer for me as a busy homeschool mom.

This first one is totally for the non-tech-savvy moms out there — like me!

  • You Don’t Have to be the Teacher

Can I get an amen? Seriously though.

If I had to teach or offer advice on the technology projects my teen gets involved in, I would be completely lost! The classes at MYTEK LAB can be completely hands-off (parent-wise) if you wish!

Not only do they teach the classes, but they also connect with your child through chat, email, and even offer weekly help classes!

This totally had me sold.

While my son does still enjoy showing me his projects and breaking them down with his IT-loving dad, there is absolutely no pressure on the parent side of things!

  • Classes Can Be Taken on the Road

Ok, so this isn’t a perk that applies to everyone, but it’s definitely one that I’m thankful for!

Roadschooling With Teenagers and Technology Education

Homeschooling on the go has become our reality since we started full-time RVing in July and since MYTEK LAB classes can be accessed literally anywhere, it is seriously the perfect choice for us!

With that said, you don’t have to be a full-time RV family to reap the benefits this perk has to offer. This simply means your child can take these classes with them wherever their life takes them.
