Black background with snowflake and text reading: Winter Crafting Fun

When it’s too cold to go out and play, get to crafting instead with these fun winter crafts for kids!

Wintertime Fun

While winter isn’t my absolute favorite season of all time (hello, fall!), I really do enjoy winter for the most part.

From winter hiking with my family to sitting at home by the warm fire.

Snow covered trees with sun peaking out.

All that said, winter can also cause cabin fever from time to time — yes, even for this introverted homeschool mom.

That’s why it’s important to stay connected, mix it up by adding in some additional wintertime fun from time to time.

Winter Crafts for Kids

While technically my kiddos are all older (2 of them fully grown) now, I remember the bitterly cold days of being stuck inside with nothing to do all too well!

In those days, we leaned on crafts to kick the boredom frequently.

Creating winter crafts and snowflakes with craft supplies scattered around on a white background and a child using scissors to cut white paper.

So, if you’re in the stage of life where you need a little something crafty and fun to keep the kiddos engaged during the winter months, I’ve got you!

I don’t think it matters how old my own kiddos get; I will always love sharing kid craft ideas with you all!

That said, I’ve got everything you need for winter crafting fun — from penguins to snowflakes.

Check em’ out!

Winter Animal Crafts

First up on my simple list of winter crafts for kids are the animal crafts.

From penguins to polar bears, these next 6 adorable crafts feature cold-weather animals perfect for wintertime!

Pick your favorites and get to crafting, you guys!

  • Penguin Crafts

Who doesn’t love a good penguin craft?

Seriously though!

My kiddos grew up going to the Kansas City Zoo every week, and visiting the penguins was always a joy!

Not going to lie, I sometimes wish they were still little enough to make these fun crafts.

Create a keepsake with this adorable footprint penguin (left) via Crafts by Amanda, or get crafty with the kiddos by painting these penguin rocks (top right) via Sustain My Craft Habit.

Need something super simple for your little? Try this cotton ball penguin (bottom right) craft via Mombrite. Not only is this one super cute and easy, but it includes a free printable template! Now that’s a win-win, you guys!

  • Arctic Animals Crafts

If you loved the penguin craft ideas, you are definitely going to love these next 3 winter crafts!

While penguins were high on our visit list at the KC Zoo, the Polar bear was definitely up there as well.

Collage of 3 winter crafts for kids: Popsicle stick winter animals, polar bear slime with googly eyes, a blue sheet of paper with white polar bear handprint.

If animal crafts are what you’re looking for, you need to try these craft stick arctic animals (left) via Creatively Beth. This set of crafts includes instructions for a craft stick penguin, moose, walrus, and polar bear! Plus, it has free handmade patterns included.

Next up are the polar bears.

If you have a kiddo who isn’t super into crating but needs a little hands-on fun, this polar bear slime (top right) via Mom. Wife. Busy Life. is just the ticket! While not technically a craft for the kids, it can give mom the crafty fix she needs while providing some engaging fun for little ones.

Finally, you’ve got to check out this easy polar bear handprint paper craft (bottom right) via Simple Everyday Mom. This craft also includes a free printable template and just looks incredibly simple, you guys!

Winter Weather Crafts

If the winter weather is keeping you and your kiddos indoors, what better time to create indoor snowflakes and snowmen!

As ironic as it may sound, this can be a super fun way to spend a snowy (or bitterly cold) afternoon.

Try a handful of these fun ideas next time you’re stuck inside.

  • Snowman Crafts

Snowmen used to be my jam, you guys!

While I was never big on playing in the snow (yes, even as a kiddo), I was always a fan of snowman decorations and trinkets.

That said, I have grown in my holiday decorating style over the years, and now my home is filled with a range of decorative items with snowmen sprinkled here and there instead of running the show.

Either way, I’m still a fan of snowmen, and these craft ideas look like so much fun, you guys!

If simple or easy to do with little ones is what you’re in need of, these next 3 snowman crafts are the perfect fit!

Start your paper crafting off with this snowman pointillism art project (left) via Coffee and Carpool.

Then take things up a notch by adding on fun hands-on creative items such as cotton balls and buttons with these next 2 ideas!

While paper crafting is fun, sometimes what you need to beat the winter boredom is an activity-based craft idea — like these next 3!

Check them out!

Collage of 3 snowman activities: Snowman paper cup, snowman built out of playdough, baggie of white playdough with snowman face drawn on baggie.

Or, practice some hands-on play and crafting all in one with some snowman playdough!

First up, this adorable play-dough snowman (top right) via Tik Kido. While this is technically designed as a gift idea (which is super cool, btw), it can easily be done at home with the kiddos as an activity-based craft idea!

Lastly, this super simple play-dough snowman in a bag (bottom right) via She Saved.

How cute are these, you guys??

  • Snowflake Crafts

While building a snowman can be fun, sometimes catching (and creating) snowflakes is even better!

Check out some of these awesome snowflake craft ideas perfect for those cold winter days.

Collage of 4 winter crafts for kids: brightly colored paper snowflakes, white paper snowflakes, white glittery snowflake, brightly colored snowflakes made out of popsicle sticks.

There’s nothing quite like a good paper snowflake craft!

While creating paper snowflakes can be tricky, these next 2 ideas just looked like too much fun not to try, you guys!

First up are these incredible coffee filter snowflakes (top left) via Printables Fairy. Not only are these snowflakes beautiful, but this post includes some detailed cutting instructions for those of us (yeah, I’m talking about myself) who struggle with the snowflake paper cutting part.

Next, I want to share these paper snowflakes (bottom left) via Mom. Wife. Busy Life. While these too look incredible, they are definitely not a great pick for little ones. So, if you have older kiddos who enjoy crafting, this one is for you!

If easy is your go-to, this snowflake decoration craft (top right) via The Inspiration Edit is where it’s at! This one looks so simple and includes a free template!

Last, but certainly not least, we have these brightly colored popsicle snowflakes via Mombrite. While a little on the Christmasy side, these can easily be done with non-colored craft sticks to create a more winter season vibe.

Crystal snowflakes hanging on tree.

While paper crafting is great, sometimes all you need is a little activity-based crafting fun — such as these STEM-inspired crystal snowflakes (above) via Adventures of a DIY Mom. These cool little snowflakes are great for older kiddos who have a little patience, as they require extra time (and some overnight waiting).

Other Winter Crafts for Kids

These last three crafts are perfect for a little indoor (and outdoor) winter fun!

Check em’ out!

Collage of 3 winter crafts for kids: eskimo paper craft with children's faces, paper winter hat with cotton ball top, frozen sun catchers filled with leaves.

First up, this adorable photo eskimo craft (left) via Simple Everyday Mom. Not only is this craft adorable and personalized, but it also includes a free template!

Next is this fun winter hat craft (top right) via Journey to SAHM. This one is crazy simple and perfect for little ones.

Lastly, we have these STEM-inspired frozen sun catchers via Take Them Outside. These suncatchers are perfect for the not-too-cold winter days and are a great way to encourage some outdoor crafty fun!

I’m so excited that you decided to check out my little corner of the world!

If you have been following our journey for any length of time, you already know that I’m obsessed with coffee, organization, and all things simple.

I’m also a huge dog lover and introvert 💗

My homeschool style is very eclectic.

I enjoy a solid mixture of structure and free range. I set goals for myself and my children each week, but I put no pressure on perfection.

We use a wide variety of curriculum in our home.

Some of our current favorites are The Good and the Beautiful, Life of Fred, Beautiful Feet Books, and Lifepac.

While my kids do spend a good amount of time learning at desks, they also spend countless hours exploring their creativity and practicing a little independence.

I love mountains, rainy days, and sitting by the campfire.

Our family recently relocated to the PNW and we have been enjoying finding new nature spots to explore together 🙌🏼

I can’t wait to connect and share all the things I’ve learned on our new journey!

Just a Note…

Thanks for checking out the kid activities portion of the blog!

Typically summer is the most productive time for my blog. However, our family is currently living in temporary housing and we do not see an end in sight (thank you housing marking 😪) — meaning my workspace & supplies to produce quality content it extremely limited.

I am still working, but it’s nothing like normal.

As always, we appreciate your patience!
