Deciding to Homeschool

Homeschooling wasn’t even on my radar until my oldest son asked to be homeschooled after his 5th-grade year.

While I was nervous and unsure if I was making the right decision, I jumped in anyway.

First, we started with online schooling, over time we transitioned to traditional homeschooling, and then eventually we switched it up one more time by road schooling while traveling full-time in our RV.

All that said, our first homeschool year was a crazy mixture of beautiful and messy, but you know what? Deciding to homeschool truly was the hardest part, you guys!

Homeschool Documents + Forms

If I’m being honest, I feel like I’m just winging it at this point in my homeschool journey, and I rarely have all my ducks in a row anymore.

However, I was all about the organization and paperwork filing once upon a time.

First, I tackled organizing our supplies, and then I spent time filing all of our important homeschool documents.

I kept curriculum receipts, documented our homeschool field trips, tracked attendance to our co-op-type science classes at the zoo, and tracked our PE activities like gymnastics and trampoline parks.

None of this was required by the state I lived in.

While I will always thrive in an organized space, homeschool paper tracking eventually became too overwhelming for me.

Our lives got thrown upside down from a cross-country move and sudden RV living, and I no longer track any of those things.

That said, many states do require you to keep formal documents or send in a notice of intent.

It’s incredibly important to follow all the legal requirements of your state when deciding to homeschool.

Personal Homeschool Documents

While following the legal guidelines for homeschooling in your state is essential, sometimes tracking and recording things for your own homeschool files can be just as important!

Whether you need certain files for legal reasons or simply want to track your student’s progress, these printable homeschool documents can help!

Non-Accredited Private School Document

This is the one thing I will always, always keep in my homeschool teacher binder.

Registering as a non-accredited private school was required by my state, so I quickly whipped this document up for my personal use.

Since I made this document editable, it’s easy to update at the start of each homeschool year.

That said, this particular printable is for personal use and may not meet your minimum state requirements.

Non-Accredited Private School Printable Document

*Note: This is NOT a legal document.

While your state might not require you to register as a non-accredited private school, there are other benefits to using this freebie!

Not only can you name your school, but you can also possibly use this printable to get teacher discounts at some retailers.

I have personally used this document at a handful of stores that allow homeschool parents to participate in teacher discounts.

Plus, this homeschool document is a great thing to have on hand if you like keeping things formal.

Student Record Homeschool Document

While I have offered the above freebie to my readers for some time, this is a new one, you guys!

As I mentioned earlier, I used to track all the things in our homeschool, even though it wasn’t required by my state.

However, I didn’t have this awesome sheet to do it with!

I totally created this one just for you guys!

So, whether you have state requirements you must meet, or you simply want to track your child’s yearly progress as I did, this sheet can help keep you organized.

Free Printable Student Record Sheet

*Note: This is not a legal document.

The student record sheet has a place to log your child’s name, grade level, subjects, grades, and learning hours! It also has a small section for notes.

The best part? It’s editable just like our non-accredited private school document!

Hey guys! I’m Mary, homeschool mom of 3 amazing kiddos.

I’m so excited that you decided to check out my little corner of the world!

If you have been following our journey for any length of time, you already know that I’m obsessed with coffee, organization, and all things simple.

I’m also a huge dog lover and introvert 💗

My homeschool style is very eclectic.

I enjoy a solid mixture of structure and free range. I set goals for myself and my children each week, but I put no pressure on perfection.

We use a wide variety of curriculum in our home.

Some of our current favorites are The Good and the Beautiful, Life of Fred, Beautiful Feet Books, and Lifepac.

While my kids do spend a good amount of time learning at desks, they also spend countless hours exploring their creativity and practicing a little independence.

I love mountains, rainy days, and sitting by the campfire.

Our family recently relocated to the PNW and we have been enjoying finding new nature spots to explore together 🙌🏼

I can’t wait to connect and share all the things I’ve learned on our new journey!
